3-Non-traditional Student Participation in STEM

The impact of adding "additional entry ramps" through SPIRE was seen as the program began to close the “opportunity gap” with our under-represented groups by more than tripling both our Black and Hispanic enrollment in our STEM program. Our SES STEM population likewise grew from 12.9% to 22.3% more closely reflecting our school SES population of 32%.

The STEM population continues to grow SY 2016-17 to 537 students (a 229% increase since 2014). The SES STEM population grew from 103 students in SY 2015-16 to 121 students in SY 2016-17.

Our goal is that by SY2018-19, the demographic make-up of our STEM population (including the gender gap) will match the school’s demographic make-up.
